47 Percent Rise In Turnover On Xetra In September - Total Volume Of €212 Billion Traded On All Stock Exchanges In Germany

In September €194.1 billion were turned over on Xetra and on the floor of Börse Frankfurt – a rise of 45 percent year-on-year (September 2006: €133.8 billion). Thereof €184 billion were traded on Xetra gaining 47 percent year-on-year (September 2006: €125.2 billion) and €10 billion on the floor (September 2006: €8,5 billion). German equities accounted for €181,8 billion, foreign equities comprising €9 billion. More than 97 percent of the transaction volume with German equities was executed at Börse Frankfurt. More than 82 percent of foreign equities were traded on Xetra and on the floor.

In the entire month 13 million transactions were executed on Xetra, a rise of 60 percent year-on-year (September 2006: 8.2 million).

According to the Xetra liquidity measure (XLM), E.ON AG was the most liquid DAX® blue chip in September with 4 basis points (bp) for an order volume of €100,000. Depfa Bank plc. was the most liquid MDAX® stock with 18 bp. The most liquid equity-based ETF was the db-x-trackers II iBOXX Sovereigns Eurozone 1-3 TR with 2 bp. The most liquid foreign stock was ABN Amro with 8 bp. XLM measures liquidity in electronic securities trading on the basis of the implicit transaction costs. It is expressed in basis points (1 bp = 0.01 percent); a low XLM denotes high liquidity in a security.

Deutsche Bank AG was the strongest DAX® stock on Xetra in September at €16 billion. Salzgitter AG was the top MDAX® stock at €1 billion while Air Berlin AG led the SDAX® stock at €252,3 million and Q-Cells AG headed the TecDAX® at €657 million. At €3.1 billion, the DAX EX was once again the exchange-traded fund with the largest turnover.

On all stock exchanges in Germany €212,5 billion were traded in September according to orderbook turnover statistics – a rise of 44 percent compared year-on-year (September 2006: €147.1 billion). This total included €204.2 billion in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds, as well as €8.3 billion in fixed-income securities.
