369 Billion Euros In Turnover On The German Stock Exchanges In April - Xetra Record In MDAX Stocks - Second-Strongest Month In Exchange-Traded Funds

A total volume of 368.6 billion euros was traded on the German stock exchanges in April, about 16 percent less than in the previous month. The total for April comprises some 286.6 billion euros in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds and about 80 billion euros in fixed-income securities. Roughly 90 percent of the volume traded in equities nationwide is now being posted through Xetra and on the floor of FWB, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The order-book statistics, which are based on single counting of all transactions in the order book of Xetra and broker-supported trading on the floor, show that a total volume of 86 billion euros was traded in equities on the German stock exchanges in April. Of this total, 79.4 billion euros were traded in German equities. About 89 percent, or 70.3 billion euros, of this volume was traded through Xetra. Another 8.6 percent, or roughly 6.8 billion euros in turnover, was posted in trading on the floor of FWB, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Xetra set a new record in the trading of MDAX stocks in April: Roughly 74 percent of the total volume in MDAX stocks was traded through Xetra. XTF, the segment for exchange-traded funds, achieved its second-highest turnover figure in April with volume of 2.1 billion euros; almost 99 percent of this volume was traded through Xetra.

According to the order-book statistics, Siemens was the most active DAX blue chip in April with volume of 9.4 billion euros traded in its shares. Ergo was the leading MDAX (mid-cap DAX) stock, with 388.6 million euros in shares traded. Aixtron was the top Neuer Markt stock in April with turnover of 291.6 million euros posted in its shares. In the SMAX (small-cap quality) segment, Loewe ranked first with a volume of 12.2 million euros in shares traded. Nokia was the leading international stock with 968 million euros in share turnover. The highest-volume exchange-traded fund in April was the DAX EX with 1.5 billion euros in turnover.
