The 2nd ATHEX Ecosystem Networking Event was held yesterday 4 June 2019 with great success at the Athens Stock Exchange, with main subject being: "Synergies, cooperation and opportunities in Capital Markets".
More than 150 executives participated, among which executives of ATHEX Members and Listed Companies, representatives from the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, representatives from Institutional and Private Investment bodies and representatives from Companies participating in the whole ecosystem of the Greek Capital Market.
The goal of the ATHEX Ecosystem Networking Event is to highlight the fact that companies and stakeholders can contribute essentially to the development of entrepreneurship and consequently to the recovery of the Greek economy, through cooperation and common goals.
This year's event was honored by the presence of Mr. Khaled Waleed Al-Falah, Director, Business Development, M.A. Kharafi & Sons and Boursa Kuwait BoD member and Mr. Andre Kuusvek, Director, Local Currency and Capital Markets Development, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
At the opening of the event, Mr. Socrates Lazaridis, ATHEX CEO, stated among others that the Athens Stock Exchange can contribute drastically to the empowerment of collaborations with other infrastructures which share a common vision aiming to create a more efficient Market. He also stressed the fact that the Exchanges, the Central Counterparties and the Central Depositories, may cooperate for the formation of an efficient network which will facilitate the cross-border investments towards the common interest of central infrastructures, their users and the end investors.
The first part of the event started with the speech of the official guest, Mr. Khaled Waleed Al-Falah who presented the Kuwait Capital Market and its development prospects. Mr. Khaled Waleed Al-Falah also pointed out that the cooperation between Boursa Kuwait and Athens Stock Exchange is expected to add value to the advancement of the former, taking advantage of the know-how and experience of the latter in the development of new products & services.
The speeches continued with the next official guest, Mr. Andre Kuusvek, who highlighted the positive effect of an efficient capital market to the development of the real economy. Moreover, he underlined the crucial role that the governments and legislative authorities have to play for the creation of an effective capital market ecosystem, where ideal circumstances for capital raising from companies will be created and consequently investment opportunities for local and foreign investors.
In the second part of the event, a panel conversation among the official guest and ATHEX CEO, Mr. Socrates Lazaridis took place, with the subject: "Synergies, Cooperation and opportunities in Capital Markets". Mr. Nikos Porfyris, ATHEX Chief Business Development Officer was the panel moderator.
Following the panel discussion, Mr. Michael Filippou, CEO of Hellenic Energy Exchange (ENEX), presented the plans of ENEX concerning new products and services that are expected to be launched within 2020. Moreover, he emphasized on the role that the ecosystem participants may play with regard to trading and clearing of those products.
