10-Year Bond Futures Set New Trading Record

Date 16/06/2000

A record 111,304 10-Year Treasury Bonds futures were traded at the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE) on Wednesday 14 June.

The turnover amounts to a nominal value of $11.13 billion and surpasses the previous record of 94,652 contracts traded on 12 June 1998 by 17.6%.

The record volume was stimulated by the second quarter rollover of bonds from June contracts to September contracts and the approaching end to the financial year.

10-Year Treasury Bond futures are SFE's third most heavily traded product. In 1999, more than 5.3 million contracts were traded. Year to date turnover of the contract is 2% higher than for the same period in 1999.

Overall, total SFE volume for the January to May 2000 period exceeds the 1999 figure by 15.4%, with more than 13.8 million futures and options contracts, at a daily average of 134,146, being traded.
