Global exchanges, against rising interest rates, inflation, and expectations of further aggressive monetary policy, largely posted declines in August, reversing the previous month's gains.
The FTSE Mondo Visione Index fell 3.9% in August, closing the month at 64,097.35 points, down from the July close of 66,669.08

Zagrebacka Burza was the best performer by capital returns in U.S. dollars, with a 27.6 per cent increase in share price from 1 August 2022 to 31 August 2022. The second-best performer was S.C. Bursa de Valori Bucuresti S.A., with a rise of 8.7 per cent, followed by Brazil's B3 with a 7.2 increase over the same period.
ASX was the worst performer by capital returns in U.S. dollars, with a 12.7 per cent decrease in share price from 1 August 2022 to 31 August 2022. Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing was the second-worst performer with an 11.5 per cent decline, followed by Euronext with an 8.4 per cent decrease over the same period.
Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index, said:"HKEX reported its results for the first half of 2022. Net income declined by 27 per cent in the company's worst interim performance in five years. Hong Kong may take over from Singapore as an international financial centre in the long term, but in the here and now, Singapore is out in front when it comes to attracting talent and investment. Meanwhile, CME Group's August volumes grew 22% year-over-year, benefitting from resurgent interest rate complex volumes following hawkish Jackson Hole messaging."
