Financial markets experienced a rough third quarter, culminating in the largest monthly decline in a year. Since late July, world stocks have collectively lost nearly USD 6 trillion.
The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index closed at 65,302.22 points at the end of September, marking a 3.0% decrease from its August 31, 2023 value of 67,314.85.

FTSE MONDO VISIONE EXCHANGES INDEX AND THE FTSE ALL-WORLD INDEX PERFORMANCE SINCE 17 AUGUST 2001 (USD CAPITAL RETURN)
Herbie Skeete, Managing Director of Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index said: "Global equities suffered significant declines in September, with even tech giants being affected. Volatility remained high as interest rates rose and inflationary pressures persisted."
In September, India's BSE saw the highest capital returns in U.S. dollars, with a 21.8% increase in share price. S.C. Bursa de Valori Bucuresti S.A. came in second with a 21.2% increase, followed by the Multi Commodity Exchange of India with a 21.0% increase.
The worst performer in September was Hellenic Exchanges SA, experiencing an 11.8% decrease in share price. NZX followed with a 7.8% decrease, and Boursa Kuwait Securities with a 7.5% decrease.
The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index fell 0.8% in the third quarter of 2023, after rising 0.6% in the second quarter of 2023 and dropping 10.2% in the third quarter of 2022.
In the third quarter of 2023, India's BSE led in capital returns with a 110.7% increase in share price, followed by the Multi Commodity Exchange of India with a 35.0% increase and S.C. Bursa de Valori Bucuresti S.A. with a 27.3% increase.
Croatia's Zagrebacka Burza dd was the worst performer in the third quarter, experiencing a 20.6% decrease in share price. Brazil's B3 SA followed with an 18.9% decrease, and ASX with a 12.1% decrease.
Looking at the past 12 months, the best performer in the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index based on capital returns in USD was S.C. Bursa de Valori Bucuresti with a 119.1% increase in share price. India's BSE and Hellenic Exchanges SA were the next best performers with increases of 109.9% and 70.6% respectively.
Croatia's Zagrebacka Burza dd experienced the worst performance over the past 12 months, with an 87.9% share price decrease. Chile's Bolsa de Comercio Santiago and Nairobi Securities Exchange followed with decreases of 77.8% and 33.5% respectively.
The Nigerian Exchange Group was recently removed from the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index due to Nigeria's reclassification from a frontier to unclassified market status.
