Exchanges Hold Steady Going Into Christmas And New Year Holidays

Heading into the holiday season the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index is steady with most publicly listed exchanges holding their share value during the month of November.

The Index*, which aims to reflect market sentiment and is a key indicator of the exchanges’ performance, saw a one per cent decrease in November 2012.

Commenting on the Index which closed down at 21,596.04 on 30 November 2012, Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index said:

With the slowdown in trading across stock and derivatives markets showing no signs of bottoming out, the markets await the introduction of tougher rules in trading over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives being imposed by regulators,” he says.

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars was India’s Multi Commodity Exchange with a 12.4 per cent increase in share price from 31 October to 30 November 2012. The next best performer was Greece’s Hellenic Exchanges SA with a 10.9 per cent increase in share price over the same period.

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was Romania’s S. C. Bursa de Valori Bucuresti SA with a 11.8 per cent decrease in share price from 31 October to 30 November 2012. This was followed by NYSE Euronext with a 5.7 per cent decrease over the same period.
