FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index:

Japan Exchange Tops League Table For Third Consecutive Month - FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index Up Two Per Cent In April

Date 16/05/2013

Japan Exchange, listed on the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index in February, has topped the Index for the third consecutive month, signalling strong performance in share price value and one to watch as the Japan economy shows signs of growth.

Overall, the exchanges sector continues to show resilience amid varied results from economies around the globe, with the Index increasing for the fifth consecutive month. The Index*, which aims to reflect market sentiment and is a key indicator of the exchanges’ performance, saw a 2.0 per cent increase in April 2013.

Commenting on the Index which closed up at 26,162.17 on 30 April 2013, Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index said:

“Japan Exchange Group, the parent company of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Osaka Securities Exchange, has seen its stock price more than triple since listing on the TSE on January 4. Some local analysts consider that stock has gotten ‘a bit pricey,’ and that JPX had ‘gotten expensive.’ Investors that sold off JPX shares early in the year may be kicking themselves now. However, the question many investors are no doubt asking themselves is ‘stay in or cash out?”

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars was Japan Exchange with a 35.3 per cent increase in share price from 29 March to 30 April 2013. The next best performer was Greece’s Hellenic Exchanges SA with a 33 per cent increase over the same period.

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was Russia’s Moscow Exchange with a 9.9 per cent decrease in share price from 29 March to 30 April 2013. This was followed by Nasdaq OMX Group with a 8.7 per cent decrease over the same period.
