Exchange groups have been buoyed up by signs of moderating inflation and a slowing pace of interest rate increases by central banks.
The FTSE Mondo Visione Index rose 3.8% in January, closing the month at 64,966.2 points, up from the December close of 62,602.31.

Hellenic Exchanges was the best performer by capital returns in U.S. dollars, with a 24.9 per cent increase in share price from 1 January 2023 to 31 January 2023. The second-best performer was S.C. Bursa de Valori Bucuresti, with a rise of 15.9 per cent, followed by the Philippine Stock Exchange, with a 14.3 per cent increase over the same period.
Zagrebacka Burza was the worst performer by capital returns in U.S. dollars, with an 85.7 per cent decrease in share price from 1 January 2023 to 31 January 2023. Saudi Tadawul Group was the second-worst performer with a 10.4 per cent decline, followed by Dubai Financial Market with a 6.6 per cent decrease over the same period.
Herbie Skeete, Managing Director of Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index, said: "The CME Group continues to be the largest exchange operator by market capitalisation. The CME was buoyed up by rising interest rates and recessionary fears driving greater use of risk hedging tools."
