FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index Down 4.2% In December, Down 0.3% In Q4, Up 4% Over 2018 - CME Group Top Performer In 2018

After a year which saw the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index reaching record highs, the index ended 2018 in decline. Despite this, the index outperformed the major global indices.

FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index And The FTSE All-World Index Performance Since 17 August 2001 (USD Capital Return)

The Index, which aims to reflect market sentiment and is a key indicator of exchanges performance closed at 49,398 on 31 December 2018, down from 51,576.78 on 30 November 2018.

Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and also Co-founder of the Index said:

"As we ended 2018 Euronext announced that it had secured agreement from shareholders that together own 49.6% of Oslo Bors VPS Holding ASA, and might proceed to make a formal offer for the company in January 2019. The possibility of a counter bid is small, We expect to see more M&A activity in 2019 involving the big beasts of the sector with the establishing of a true global multi-asset class likely to happen this year."

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer in December by capital returns in US dollars was the Philippine Stock Exchange with a 4.9 per cent increase in share price from 30 November 2018 to 31 December 2018. The next two best performers were Nairobi Securities Exchange with a 4.2 per cent increase and London Stock Exchange Group with a 0.5 per cent increase.over the same period.

 

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer in December by capital returns in US dollars was Moscow Exchange with an 13.4 per cent decrease in share price from 30 November 2018 to 31 December 2018. The next two worst performers at the bottom of the table were the TMX Group with a 12.7 per cent decrease and Nasdaq with a 10.7 per cent decrease over the same period.

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index fell by 0.3 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2018 as opposed to a rise of 0.1` per cent in the third quarter of 2018 and a rise of 5.0 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2017.

In Q4 2018, the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars was Brazil's B3 with a 18.1 per cent increase in share price from October 1 to 31 December 2018. The next two best performers were Multi Commodity Exchange of India with a 10.9% increase and CME Group with a 10.5 per cent increase.

In Q4 2018, the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was TMX Group with a 22.8 per cent decrease in share price from October 1 to 31 December 2018. The next two worst performers at the bottom of the table were Moscow Exchange with a 22.0 per cent decrease and Warsaw Stock Exchange with a 19.1 per cent decrease.

Year to date, the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars was the CME Group with a 28.8 per cent increase in share price from January 1 to 31 December 2018. The next two best performers were Intercontinental Exchange with a 6.8 per cent increase and Nasdaq with a 6.2 per cent increase.

Year to date, the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was India's BSE with a 39.8 per cent decrease in share price from January 1 to 31 December 2018. The next two worst performers at the bottom of the table were the Moscow Exchange with a 38.8 per cent decrease and Hellenic Exchanges with a 30.8 per cent decrease.
