With six months steady growth, the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index is tracking to the half year in positive territory – the longest period of consistent growth the Index has experienced for some years.
The Index*, which aims to reflect market sentiment and is a key indicator of the exchanges’ performance, saw a 0.8 per cent increase in May 2013. This is the sixth consecutive the month the Index has tracked well, with more than half its constituents experiencing a reasonable increase in their share price values.
Dubai Financial Market, Moscow Exchange and Bursa Malaysia lead the league table which demonstrates a split across the globe in market sentiment.
Commenting on the Index which closed up at 26,368.47 on 31 May 2013, Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index said:
“Dubai Financial Market, the Gulf's only listed bourse, was at the top of the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index leader board in May as some traders bet index compiler MSCI would upgrade the UAE in their market classification review.”
The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars was Dubai Financial Market with a 30.4 per cent increase in share price from 30 April to 31 May 2013. The next best performer was Russia’s Moscow Exchange with a 16.5 per cent increase over the same period.
The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was Japan Exchange Group with a 23.5 per cent decrease in share price from 30 April to 31 May 2013. This was followed by Johannesburg Stock Exchange with a 12.5 per cent decrease over the same period.
