The market traded active with substantial volumes in ECONET up 50 to 1650 and ARISTON unchanged whilst 27 million shares were traded in FIRST BANK up 10 to 150, and reasonable turnovers in a number of counters. A Special Bargain was recorded in THZ of 5 million shares at $5.60 a share. Counters to gain included OLD MUTUAL up 925 to 36550, COTTCO 260 to 3310, ABCH 250 to 9250, KINGDOM 225 to 7025 whilst PORTHOLD put on 200 to 4700 and SEED-CO closed 150 cents higher to 3350. DELTA recovered 70 to 2320 whilst losses occurred in BAT down 500 to 32500, and INNSCOR and AFDIS traded 100 to 2200 and 90 to 700 lower respectively. Other counters to trade were within 50 cents of yesterday's levels and the index gained 736.72 points to close at 38461.49.

RIO TINTO put on 500 to 6500, BINDURA in reasonable turnover gained 101 to 2000 and FALGOLD rose 5 to 70. ASHANTI ZDR, FALCON and WANKIE traded unchanged and the index recovered 107.16 points to close at 1989.05.
