Yayasan Bursa Malaysia Donates RM818,600 - Bursa Bull Charge 2015 #run4others Funds Distributed To A Further 22 Beneficiaries

Date 21/12/2015

Bursa Malaysia Berhad’s (“Bursa Malaysia”) foundation, Yayasan Bursa Malaysia (“Yayasan Bursa”), today presented a total of RM818,600 to 22 beneficiaries with RM613,600 going to eighteen philanthropic recipients of The Bursa Bull Charge (“TBBC”) 2015 and RM205,000 to four schools from Sabah and Sarawak.

In October a total of RM1.18 million was distributed to the 10 main beneficiaries of TBBC to support initiatives that empower others to be more productive members of society. Yayasan Bursa has since expanded the number of beneficiaries to account for the damage caused by the earthquake in Sabah and also to ensure greater inclusiveness by improving the lives of communities across the nation.

Dato’ Tajuddin Atan, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, said “The Bursa Bull Charge brings the marketplace together to #run4others and to give back to the community by creating a meaningful and sustainable impact in people’s lives. We hope all parties receiving their funds today will make good on their promises to improve the lives of the community they work closely with. Rest assured, Bursa Malaysia will continue to put in our best efforts and seek the support of the capital market in our aim to positively impact the community,” continued Dato’ Tajuddin.

Amongst the eighteen TBBC philanthropy recipients are the mountain guides of Persatuan Malim Gunung Kinabalu, Sabah victims of the June 2015 Sabah earthquake, while the other philanthropies include charity homes supporting elderly people, underprivileged children and orphans.

Four schools in Sabah and Sarawak, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kiau 1 of Kota Belud, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Mat Salleh of Ranau, SMK Katibas from Song District of Sibu and SK Tangibang of Kota Marudu received a total of RM205,000.

SK Kiau 1 and SMK Mat Salleh were both affected by the Sabah Earthquake in June 2015. SK Kiau plans to use the funds to rebuild its school canteen while SMK Mat Salleh will build a high-rise water tank. Meanwhile, SMK Katibas intends to use the funds to build a small dam to channel water to its school and SK Tangibang will equip the school with much-needed school equipment and supplies for the students.

The Bursa Bull Charge 2015 was organised for the second time by Bursa Malaysia Berhad and distributed to beneficiaries a total of RM 1.8 million for charity, exceeding its initial target of RM 1.5 million and surpassing the RM 1.37 million raised at last year’s inaugural Bursa Bull Charge.
