WOOD & Company Becomes A Member Of Wiener Börse

Date 14/10/2004

WOOD & Company continues its strategy of improving client services and joining European stock exchanges. On 11 October 2004, WOOD & Company became a full-fledged member of Wiener Börse, providing its clients with fast and easy trading on the Austrian market. In addition, the company is in the final stage of negotiating membership in the Deutsche Börse.

WOOD & Company is the first company from the new EU member states to join Wiener Börse (Vienna Stock Exchange).

"Our presence at Wiener Börse and later in Germany will significantly expand the portfolio of WOOD & Company’s services, providing our clients with fast and high-quality access to trading on important European markets," says Andrea Ferancová, WOOD & Company's Head of Equities. At the same time, WOOD & Company is considering the possibility of becoming a market maker of Erste Bank shares on Wiener Börse, which means that it will set on a daily basis the buy and sell quotas for Erste Bank shares.

Membership on Wiener Börse is a part of WOOD & Company's strategic goal to become a member of important stock exchanges in Western Europe and to gain direct access to trading. "Only direct presence on the market allows offering fast and high-quality services that set us apart from the growing competition. This is also why we are in the late stages of negotiating the membership of WOOD & Company in the Deutsche Börse," adds Andrea Ferancová.

WOOD & Company, founded in 1991, is the largest Czech equity broker. Over the past decade, the firm has expanded from its core expertise in securities trading and research to a variety of related investment banking/corporate finance services including M&A, fund raising and corporate advisory to foreign corporate clients, and domestic issuers and institutions. WOOD & Company strengthened its market share to 23.3 % in 2003. The total volume of trades executed by WOOD & Company in 2003 amounted more than CZK 120billion and CZK 99billion in first six month of 2004.

Wiener Börse is the only securities exchange in Austria that offers trading, in addition to the traditional markets (equity market, bond market), an innovative derivatives and warrants market. All trading on Wiener Börse is conducted through the electronic trading systems Xetra® (equity and bond market) and OMex® (derivatives, warrants). Total traded volume in 2003 reached EUR 20.6 billion vs. EUR 13.6 billion in 2002.
