WCE set a new open interest record for the May canola futures contract on March 21, 2001 at 42,366 contracts (May 01), compared to the 40,412 contracts established on March 20, 2001.
Total canola futures open interest levels are approaching the significant level of 100,000 contracts, reaching 98,221 contracts on March 21, 2001. This is well ahead of the previous record of 92,615 contracts just established the previous day.
The record setting day also resulted in a jump in total futures open interest of 133,174 contracts, compared to the previous record again established on March 20, 2001 of 127,827 contracts.
As well, for the first time ever, WCE total futures and options open interest levels combined, surpassed the 150,000 contract mark, reaching 151,382 contracts on March 21, 2001. The previous record of 145,178 contracts was also set on March 20, 2001.
