Open interest in WCE options contracts at the end of November 2004 was lower than the level of a year ago, but 105% higher than last month. There were 1,005 options contracts outstanding as at November 30, 2004.
Total open interest stood at 88,636 contracts, reflecting increases of 45.9% and 15.9% from year ago and month ago levels respectively.
Volume of trade in futures contracts rose 24.4% from a year ago with 145,240 futures contracts changing hands during November.
There were 110, 992 canola futures contracts traded during the month which is 21.9% higher than the canola futures volume of a year ago. Feed wheat futures volume posted a gain of 50.7% from last year with 11,802 contracts being traded and western barley trade rose 26.7% from a year ago to 22,516 contracts. Western barley and feed wheat futures trade was significantly higher than last month with feed wheat volume rising 61.2% from October 2004 and western barley gaining 42.6%.
Total volume for November rose 22.4% from a year ago with 145,801 futures and 561 options contracts being traded.
Crop year-to-date futures volume rose 2% from the volumes recorded last year, while total volume (futures and options combined) remained unchanged. There have been 606,959 futures contracts and 5,106 options contracts traded on the Exchange since August 1, 2004.
