Canola futures volume for October was 217,310 contracts, representing an increase of 98% from September 2003 and 27.2% from October 2002. Feed wheat futures volume rose 95.5% from the same month a year ago at 6,851 contracts. This level of trade is 68.8% higher than feed wheat futures volume recorded during September 2003. There were 18,937 western barley futures contracts traded during October, posting a gain in volume of 30.9% from the same month a year ago.
Options trade for October was 171.8% higher than that of September 2003. There were 8,053 canola options and 1,041 western barley options traded during the month.
Crop year-to-date futures volume is down 14.1% from the same period of the 2002/03 crop year with 478,353 futures contracts having been traded. However crop year-to-date options volume is 102.9% higher than the same period a year ago with 14,620 options traded.
