Winnipeg Commodity Exchange Holds 113th Annual General Meeting

The membership of Winnipeg Commodity Exchange elected its new Board of Governors at the 113th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 1, 2000.

Six members were elected for two-year terms: Stan J. Casar of FIMAT Derivatives Canada Inc.; Brian Flaherty of Flaherty Grain Company Limited; Andrew D. Gallie of Gallie Grain Ltd.; Terry James of James Richardson International Limited; Peter G. Lloyd of XCAN Grain Pool Ltd.; and E. Bradley Vannan of United Grain Growers Limited. These terms expire at the AGM in 2002.

One member was elected for a one-year term: Peter J. Rowe of Cargill Limited. This term expires at the AGM in 2001.

Other members of the Board serving the second year of a two-year term are: R. C. Bradbury of Palmer Grain Ltd.; L.F. DeJaeger of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce; R.M. Dzisiak of CFG Futures Canada Inc.; R. Gigiel of Benson- Quinn-GMS Inc.; and W. Hill of Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. These terms expire at the AGM in 2001.

In addition, at its inaugural meeting immediately following the AGM, the new Board elected three Public Governors to begin two-year terms to represent the public interest: Leo Meyer of Leo Meyer Grain Production Ltd.; Allan A. Warrack, Professor of Business Economics, Faculty of Business, University of Alberta; and Charles E. Curtis, Financial Advisor to the Manitoba Minister of Finance and Executive in Residence for the Faculty of Management, University of Manitoba. These terms expire at the AGM in 2002.

The Board also elected its Chairman and Vice-Chairman. Peter G. Lloyd was re-elected for a third year as WCE's Chairman. Mr. Lloyd has served on the Exchange's Board since 1992 (Senior Vice-Chairman from 1993-1998) and has been a member since 1976. R. M. Dzisiak was re-elected as Vice-Chairman. Mr. Dzisiak has been a member since 1994 and has sat on the Board since 1997.

They join Terry James (Immediate Past Chairman) and Bennett J. Corn (WCE President and Chief Executive Officer) on the Executive Committee.

The Board extended the November 29, 2000 deadline for the membership vote on WCE demutualization given the significance and magnitude of this decision. The new date for the membership vote on demutualization will be announced by the Board of Governors in the near future.

WCE is a not-for-profit organization and Canada's only agricultural futures and options exchange. WCE offers futures contracts on canola, flaxseed, domestic feed wheat, western barley, oats, and field peas. Options contracts are available on canola, flaxseed, feed wheat, and western barley.
