The decision of the WCE Board of Governors to delist the contract was based on very limited trading activity for some time. Although the contract is technically sound, the majority of market participants continue to use a more liquid U.S. contract.
The WCE oats futures market commenced in 1904, when the contract was introduced along with wheat and flaxseed futures. The latest revision of the contract, which was traded and margined in US$ and had a Minneapolis pricing point, was launched in 1997.
Winnipeg Commodity Exchange trades futures contracts in: canola, canola meal (June 2001), western barley, flaxseed, feed wheat and field peas; and options contracts in: canola, flaxseed, feed wheat and western barley.
