William Johnstone And Thomas Joyce Named To SIA Board Of Directors

Date 11/01/2006

William Johnstone, President and CEO of Davidson Companies, and Thomas Joyce, Chairman and CEO of Knight Capital Group, were appointed to the board of directors of the Securities Industry Association (SIA) during its meeting today. Johnstone replaces William Atwell of Charles Schwab, who retired. Joyce replaces Tim Scheve of Legg Mason, who resigned.

“Bill’s diverse service within the securities industry will be an important asset to SIA,” said James Gorman, SIA Chairman. “We are looking forward to tapping into his management expertise, developed during his long and productive career in the industry. Bill has proven time and again that he has what it takes to be a successful leader.”

Johnstone joined D.A. Davidson & Co. as President in August 2000, and became President and CEO of Davidson Companies in January 2004. Prior to joining Davidson Companies, Johnstone was Managing Partner at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, a Minneapolis-based law firm with 600 lawyers in offices around the world; was Vice Chairman of the investment firm Dain Rauscher Inc. in Minneapolis; and was President and CEO of Rauscher, Pierce & Refsnes Inc., an investment firm in Dallas.

“Tom’s distinguished background in the equity capital markets makes him an excellent addition to our board, especially given the many issues our industry is grappling with today that relate to his extensive expertise,” said Gorman. “We are excited to have him as part of the team.”

Joyce joined Knight in May 2002 from Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. where he had been Global Head of Trading since the close of 2001. Previously, he spent more than a decade managing several major equity businesses for Merrill Lynch & Co. Joyce has served as director on the boards of Nasdaq and Archipelago, and he has been a member of the Partner’s Committee of Primex Trading and SIA’s Market Structure Committee. He is also a former member of NYSE’s Market Performance Committee and the Merrill Lynch Europe Executive Committee.

Board members work together to formulate policies and complete initiatives that have short- and long-term implications for securities firms, investors, and the financial marketplace.
