WIG Index Reaches All-Time High

The Warsaw Stock Exchange would like to inform that today, on February 4, 2000, the WIG index has reached its new record at 21,224.6 points, the all-time high in its history. The previous record level of 20,760.3 was reached by the index on March 8, 1994.
The WIG index measures the rate of return on a portfolio of shares listed on the WSE main market.
The number of companies in the WIG index, as well as the value of the WIG index portfolio have been growing along with the development of the Polish capital market. On the day of the first trading session (April 16, 1991 = the base date) 5 companies participated in the index; and on the day of the previous record (March 8, 1994) 21. Currently the WIG index portfolio contains shares of 118 companies.
