Wiener Börse Reports All-time Highs In Trading Volumes

Date 10/05/2005

At a total trading volume of EUR 5.8bn in April 2005, Wiener Börse attained the highest trading volume of all times by far in the equity market. By way of comparison: In the preceding month of March, the record (to date) in trading volumes on the equity market, which contains a total of 110 stocks from the segments prime market, standard market continuous and standard market auction was EUR 5.4bn, while in April 2004, the trading volume was nearly half of this amount at EUR 2.97bn. At a total trading volume of EUR 20.84bn in the first four months of this year, Wiener Börse has already surpassed its annual trading volume of 2002 (EUR 12.73bn).

"Granted that Raiffeisen International has contributed substantially to this historic achievement, the all-time high in trading volumes is still not merely a one-time event", said Michael Buhl, member of the management board of Wiener Börse AG. The commitment of the listed companies in Eastern Europe – 86% of the companies listed in the ATX are active in Eastern Europe – and the growing interest this is generating among international investors will continue to boost trading figures according to a confident Mr. Buhl.

The other success ratios of Wiener Börse are also improving steadily: The ATX has risen since year-end 2000 by 140% and market capitalization hit EUR 73.18bn at the end of April of this year.
