Feed wheat futures volume for August 2003 was 17.5% higher than the previous month at 4,572 contracts. Compared to the same month one year ago feed wheat futures volume was 25.3% lower.
The oilseed futures contracts posted declines in trade from July 2003 as well as from the same period a year ago. Canola volume was down 26.6% from July 2003 and 61.7% from August 2002 at 66,768 contracts. Flaxseed volume declined sharply with 96 contracts being traded during August 2003.
During August 2003 a total of 101,235 futures contracts were traded, representing a decline in volume of 6.6% from July 2003.
Trade in western barley options for August 2003 saw significant increases from the levels recorded in the previous month as well as that of the same month a year ago, with 368 western barley options trading.
Canola options volume declined during August with 1,810 options being traded.
Total futures and options trade for August 2003 was 103,413 contracts representing a decline of 6.7% from the previous month. Total trade was down 50.5% compared to the same month a year ago.
Total open interest at the end of August stood at 63,591 contracts, representing a decline of 6.4% from July 2003, and a drop of 20.4% from the year ago level.
