Friends from securities industry, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning, everyone and welcome to SGX! On behalf of SGX Group and our partners, the Society of Remisiers Singapore (SRS) and the Securities Association of Singapore (SAS), it’s a tremendous pleasure to have you all join us today.
The remisier force has been and continues to be a unique community in the Singapore market, growing together with our country's broadening internationalisation. Remisiers play an essential role in serving and guiding investors in their stock-trading decisions. The remisiers’ high-touch personalised service provides a distinct model of stock market access that is much valued by Singapore investors, perhaps even more so now that robo-advisers and electronic trading become more widespread.
The customised human touch, and calm and measured approach is a reassurance as market cycles pull up and down. Which is especially true for less seasoned investors. Human assurance is the unique proposition remisiers offer, born of market intuition honed over years of interaction and dealing with the stock market.
It is therefore exciting that the Society of Remisiers (Singapore) and the Securities Association of Singapore have come together to enhance the skills of the remisier to ensure that they remain at the forefront, to support retail investors in capitalising on new opportunities. SGX is delighted to deepen our support through the Remisier Development Programme.
Through this programme, remisiers can pick up new digital skills and use technology to help them with trading management and strategies. Whether through more personalised portfolio recommendations, timely execution or insights from data & analytics, the combination of technology and experience is powerful.
And ultimately this will benefit our Singapre retail investors who will receive the best of both worlds – human expertise backed with digital toolkits.
And this is not just for the current 2,000-strong community. We want to encourage new blood to join the securities industry. The industry will benefit as younger professionals join with fresh perspectives and digital-native fluency. This injection of vitality, combined with the experience of veteran remisiers will help ensure the long-term health and growth of the securities sector in Singapore.
A healthy and vibrant market is only possible when key stakeholders come together with a common objective. Today’s event marks such an occasion and I look forward to more in the future.
Thank you.
