Warsaw Stock Exchange Summary Of The Year 2009

Date 06/01/2010

The year 2009 was highly successful for the Warsaw Stock Exchange and strengthened the position of the Polish bourse as the largest and most dynamically growing market in this part of Europe.

The success was driven, inter alia, by spectacular developments on the primary market such as the IPO of the Polish Energy Group (PGE) preceded by the largest in Europe public offering and new issue of shares in PKO BP Bank. The total number of debuts in 2009 on the WSE Main List and NewConnect was 39, whereas the stock exchange indices rose by several dozen percent, which enabled the investors to make up for some of the losses suffered in 2008.

A major milestone in the WSE development was the launch of Catalyst market, a new organized market of debt securities for local governments and corporate issuers.
