- The Conference takes place in Warsaw on 14 – 16 November 2011.
- The event is organised by the WSE, which has for years implemented and promoted high standards of corporate governance in Poland.
The European Corporate Governance Conference (ECGC) is organised for the 11th time, traditionally in the country which has the Presidency of the European Union. Previous Conferences were held, among others, in Stockholm, Madrid and, most recently, Brussels.
The Warsaw Stock Exchange together with the main partner PwC organises the event with the support of the European Commission and the European Corporate Governance Institute.
The 11th ECGC is an important event in the calendar of the Polish Presidency. It will bring together nearly 300 participants including many foreign guests. The Conference offers an opportunity to exchange opinions within the corporate governance community; therefore, in addition to the plenary session scheduled in Warsaw on 15 November, a reception will traditionally be held on the eve of the Conference to facilitate an informal exchange of views. The Warsaw edition of the Conference also includes a Special Day to be held on the WSE Trading Floor on 16 November.
“Corporate governance has always been associated with the protection of rights, the prevention of abuse, the maintenance of proper governance in companies. Thus, the traditional goal of corporate governance has been to protect companies from deterioration of governance. At the Conference, we will discuss how the WSE defines corporate government instruments to enhance the competitiveness and innovation of companies. We believe in a concept of corporate governance comprised of instruments which improve the recognition of a public company, support its reputation, and strengthen its financial results. In our opinion, in addition to maintaining corporate governance, it is key in today’s world to constantly strive to improve and develop corporate governance,” said WSE CEO Ludwik Sobolewski, who chairs the Honorary Committee of the 11th ECGC.
The members of the Honorary Committee include Dr Henryka Bochniarz, Prof. Dr habil. Marek Belka, Prof. Dr habil. Grzegorz Domański, Prof. Dr habil. Andrzej Koźmiński, Andrzej S. Nartowski, Dr Wiesław Rozłucki, Prof. Stanisław Sołtysiński.
