Warsaw Stock Exchange: Futures Trader Competition To Award PLN 140 K

Date 20/05/2014

  • A competition of Warsaw Stock Exchange and Dom Maklerski mBanku for fans of the futures market is open
  • Cash awards for sprinters, daytraders and long-term investors
  • Virtual portfolio and market quotations offer a chance of success and allow to discover the derivatives market in dedicated competition training

The Futures Trader competition organised by Warsaw Stock Exchange and Dom Maklerski mBanku opens on 19 May 2014. The competition is addressed to futures trading fans. The awards total PLN 140 thousand.

“Exchange-traded products require much more premeditated and focused educational and promotional activities especially at the time of strong competition. We will pursue these activities not only on our own but also with external partners who ensure high quality and efficiency. The Futures Trader competition offered on the exchange demo platform together with mBank is an example of WSE’s new approach to market promotion,” said Adam Maciejewski, President of the Management Board of Warsaw Stock Exchange. “The competition provides an opportunity to gain insight into the advantages of the new index contracts with a higher multiplier.”

We are glad that WSE has selected our brokerage house as a partner in the project. We know that the derivatives market is an intriguing counterpart to the cash market; our clients have a substantial share in total trading on WSE. We want to convince those who have hardly heard about futures. All participants can join a series of competition training sessions which will prepare investors for effective trading on the market,” said Jarosław Kowalczuk, President of the Management Board of Dom Maklerski mBanku.

The first phase open until the end of May is the warm-up for the actual competition. All competition participants can test their concepts using demo competition accounts. The real competition opens on 2 June as soon as trading on the exchange starts.

Initially the virtual balances in accounts of all participants will be equal at PLN 50,000. From now on, for three consecutive weeks until 20 June (expiry date of contracts on WSE), the competition participants will trade in WIG20 futures contracts FW20M1420. The winners who generate the highest returns with good investment decisions will be awarded PLN 25,000 for the first place, PLN 15,000 for the second place and PLN 10,000 for the third place in the general ranking as well as tablets. The best daily returns will be awarded both on a daily basis and in a dedicated daytrading ranking of best daily returns. All awards in aggregate (incl. tax) are PLN 140,000; winners in the top 44 positions in the competition will be awarded.

Competition participants can prepare for the contest by participating in free-of-charge training sessions organised by Warsaw Stock Exchange and Dom Maklerski mBanku.

The first day programme lectures will be delivered by WSE and DM mBanku experts in Toruń on 20 May and in Wrocław on 22 May. The programme will be wrapped up at the WSE Derivatives Day on 28 May. As an additional learning opportunity, webinars will be offered as soon as the competition is open for enrolment. Webinar participants will find out how to enter the competition, how to play in order to win, and how to take advantage of market developments.
