Warsaw Stock Exchange hosts the 19th annual Global Equity and Derivatives Markets Seminar (GEMS). GEMS stands for unique expertise combined with direct exchange of experience with capital market practitioners from around the world. The special guest of this year’s GEMS is Reto Francioni, CEO of Deutsche Boerse.
Reto Francioni, the CEO of one of the world’s biggest exchange groups, talked on the second day of the Seminar about the opportunities and threats faced by organisers of trading nowadays. He stressed the need of product and geographic diversification. He also commented on the situation on the global market and said that exchanges still feel the consolidation pressure but the consolidation process requires focused efforts in order to succeed.
GEMS is addressed to securities markets representatives interested in trading methods using state-of-the-art trading systems from the perspectives of users and designers. The curriculum is ideally suited to the needs of broker-dealers, fund managers, regulatory authorities and exchanges.
GEMS covers the functioning of securities markets, in particular the functions of different trading structures, the impact of technology on the market structure, the role of dealer intermediaries and the changing needs of institutional investors.
The seminar features interactive computer simulation sessions designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in making trading decisions and implementing them in different market environments.
GEMS is organised by the Zicklin School of Business, the Baruch College – CUNY, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics – University of Delaware, USA.
