Volume In KCBT Wheat Futures Expected To Set New Single-Day Record

Date 30/06/2000

Trading volume in Kansas City Board of Trade wheat futures today is expected to set a new single-day record, surpassing the 125 million bushel mark for the first time in exchange history.

Today's trading volume is estimated at 26,490 contracts or 132.45 million bushels, breaking the previous single-day record of 24,424 contracts set on November 29, 1999. Official volume figures for today will be released Monday morning.

Volume in the KCBT wheat contract has been heavy in recent weeks surrounding the U.S. hard red winter wheat harvest, traders said. Additional interest was generated today by a U.S. Department of Agriculture report released this morning. The report was deemed bearish for the corn market, and wheat futures fell in sympathy with corn.

KCBT September wheat futures today settled at $3.10 per bushel, down 11 cents from Thursday's close.
