Vienna Stock Exchange Q3 2026: High trading Activity And ATX At Record Level

Date 05/10/2026

The Vienna Stock Exchange recorded equity turnover of EUR 78.40 billion as of the end of September (+48.1% compared with the same period in 2025). This marks the highest level since 2008. The Austrian benchmark index ATX remains close to its all-time high. BIOGENA Good Vibes AG became the fourth new listing of the year in September. Emerald Horizon AG, FIT GROUP AG and K2G Holding AG had already made their debuts in the first half of the year. With the acquisition of an 80% majority stake in North Data GmbH, Wiener Börse AG took a further step towards diversifying its business activities. The investment in North Data, a search engine for official company data from 26 European countries, extends Wiener Börse AG’s data offering beyond stock exchange information.

Vienna Stock Exchange: Dynamic Q3 2026

“The high equity turnover and the ATX record level underline the current positive momentum on the Austrian stock market. At the same time, the trading business naturally remains dependent on market cycles and volatility. With the majority stake in North Data, we have taken a strategic step to further broaden our revenue base,” says Christoph Boschan, CEO of Wiener Börse AG.

ATX remains on record course

The ATX including dividends (Total Return) continued its strong performance in the third quarter. As of 30 September, the index was up 32.60% since the start of the year and reached its current all-time high of 17,618.00 points on 28 September (ATX excluding dividends: 28.72% / 6,856.00 points as of 30 September). This puts the Austrian benchmark index among the leading international indices. Over a long-term comparison of 25 years, the ATX Total Return also stands out with an average annual return of 10.86%, compared with the MSCI World Total Return (9.41%), DAX (7.32%) and Euro Stoxx 50 (2.60%). The market capitalisation of all domestic stocks listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange stood at EUR 223.31 billion as of 30 September.

global market grows by 46 stocks – more than 1,000 international securities

The Vienna Stock Exchange’s offering of international securities continues to grow: as of today, 45 additional stocks from the S&P 500 as well as the online fashion retailer Shein are newly tradable on the global market. The segment now comprises almost 1,100 international securities. Recent additions include asset manager Apollo Global Management, consumer electronics company Garmin, Kenvue with well-known brands such as Neutrogena, and IT and data centre specialist NetApp. Investors can trade these international securities in euros, at domestic fees and during the trading hours of Vienna Stock Exchange. The range of exchange-traded index funds was also further expanded in 2026. A total of 384 ETFs are currently tradable on the Vienna Stock Exchange – around 15% more than at the same time last year. This gives domestic investors a broad selection for diversification across different regions, sectors and asset classes.

Strong international reach continues to drive sharp growth in debt listings

Growth in the debt listing segment continues: since the start of the year, 34,057 primary listings with an issue volume of EUR 237 billion have been recorded. Measured by the number of bond listings, this represents an increase of 57% compared with the same period last year. In the third quarter, 243 issuers from 35 countries were active. The Vienna Stock Exchange’s global reach is underlined by new issuers including Nigeria’s Dangote Group, India’s IDFC First Bank and Al Rajhi Bank, a leading financial institution in the Gulf region.

New momentum for long-term wealth building

Recent proposals have brought new momentum to Austria’s political debate on funded pension provision: the planned “Zukunftsdepot” (future deposit) is intended to give children early access to the capital market through government start-up capital and tax-advantaged investment. At the same time, the reform of occupational pension provision broadens the scope for investing in the capital market to secure a supplementary pension. “However, to close Austria’s gap in building substantial retirement capital and establish a genuine capital market strategy, private pension provision must also be strengthened for everyone, namely in the form of reintroducing the retention period,” says Boschan.
