The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) today unveiled the program for its second annual celebration, which will take place on Thursday, November 30, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai and President of the Dubai International Financial Centre.
More than 2,500 guests are expected to attend this prestigious exclusive event, including a veritable who’s who of global and regional decision-makers from the financial industry. For those unable to attend, the festivities will be broadcast live on Sama Dubai TV at 8:00 pm on Thursday 30th November 2006. Highlights of the evening will include performances by international opera stars Jose Carrera and Hiba Al Kawas accompanied by the City of London Sinfonia as well as laser and fireworks shows., and.
The event, to be held at DIFC’s famous ‘Gate’ building, has been designed to reflect the way in which the DIFC has come to symbolise the convergence of East and West; the keytheme of the evening. At the same time, this extraordinary cultural event is a public celebration of the DIFC’s second year of operations, achievements and success.
His Excellency Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, Governor of the DIFC, said: “As we mark the second year of successful operations at the Dubai International Financial Centre, we also pause to show our esteemed appreciation of the guiding vision provided by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, without whom none of this would have been possible. Indeed, the continued rapid growth of the DIFC proves that this centre has become a truly international gateway for capital investment, benefiting Dubai, the UAE and the wider region.”
He continued: “As a meeting place between East and West, the DIFC has established itself as a driver of economic growth – not just for the financial community but for the region as a whole. Furthermore, the development of the DIFC and subsequent increased investment flows between the centre and the rest of the world contributes to the expansion of the global economic landscape. This is precisely why we have looked both inwardly and outward for inspiration for what promises to be an unforgettable evening.”
A series of inspiring musical performances will be given by leading artists from both the Arab world and the West. One of the world’s greatest and best-known tenors, Jose Carreras will perform a series of classical and contemporary arias.
Emerging as one of the region’s first sopranos Hiba Al Kawas will perform in a stunning tribute to the DIFC and the convergence of East and West, with Carreras and Al Kawas will perform, for the first time in musical history, a duet from “The Phantom of the Opera” in Italian and Arabic.
The City of London Sinfonia (CLS) will entertain the vast audience with a fusion of music and visual art to highlight the achievements of the DIFC this year. Conducted by Brad Cohen, who is renowned for his involvement in both classical and modern music, the CLS will provide a stunning musical introduction to the evening.
