Łukasiewicz Research Network And GPW Will Promote Innovation Of Listed Companies

Date 08/12/2020

  • A joint initiative of Łukasiewicz and the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW) aims to calculate and publish an index of listed companies engaged in research and development in partnership with the Łukasiewicz Research Network
  • The initiative will establish the Łukasiewicz Index

The Łukasiewicz Index concept has been presented by Piotr Dardziński, President of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, and Marek Dietl, President of the Management Board of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, at an event ‘Łukasiewicz Debut’, the first meeting of Łukasiewicz researchers and engineers with companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Innovation has for long determined market success and captured investor attention. Today we announce the creation of a GPW innovative company index in partnership with the Warsaw Stock Exchange in order to acknowledge and reward the commitment of companies to research and development and to encourage other companies to develop their potential leveraging the expertise and competences of Łukasiewicz researchers, Poland’s biggest provider of innovative R&D solutions. Every company which is planning to modernise and grow shareholder value should feel free to challenge us at Łukasiewicz. I am proud to roll out this ambitious initiative together with an institution whose contribution to promoting innovation among Polish companies has been invaluable,” said Piotr Dardziński, President of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, about the new exchange index initiative.

The launch of the Łukasiewicz Index comprised of the most innovative GPW-listed companies follows the latest trends in the economy and on the capital market. We care very much about state-of-the-art solutions and technologies. Our key innovations include a new version of the exchange index calculator deployed by GPW Benchmark. Thanks to this new solution, we will scale up the services provided by our factory of tailored indices and benchmarks to banks, insurers and mutual funds as early as Q2 2021,” said Marek Dietl, President of the Management Board of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

According to preliminary assumptions, the index will be comprised of companies listed on the GPW Main Market and NewConnect which partner up with Łukasiewicz. The portfolio of index participants will be updated every six months. The index will be calculated on a daily basis using closing prices. The ambition of the project is to publish the first index portfolio on 1 April 2021, the second anniversary of the Łukasiewicz Research Network.

Companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange are among the most transparent companies on the market. At the same time, they are ready to accept risks and develop innovative proprietary technologies which are unique globally. We want to reinforce innovation as a part of their DNA by offering the best we have: the Łukasiewicz team of more than 4,500 creative professionals passionate about business applications developed in search of innovative solutions. Today we have presented twelve carefully selected high-tech projects ready for roll-out. The project solutions include electrochemotherapy, i.e. cancer chemotherapy assisted by electroporation; technology capturing waste heat in industrial processes; an electric minibus with cargo functions. I am certain that those projects will soon generate profits for companies which have invested in them,” said Piotr Dardziński.

The offer of the Łukasiewicz Research Network includes a unique system: the Łukasiewicz Challenge, where a team of researchers develops an effective implementation application for a business within 15 working days in one of four business strands: digital transition, smart mobility, health care, and sustainable economy and energy. Łukasiewicz leverages the top expertise of Polish researchers and Poland’s unique research infrastructure. Businesses incur no development cost of research applications.

VIGO System has since the 1990s engaged in an R&D partnership with the Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics, which is today part of the Łukasiewicz network. Our co-operation has developed new technologies and innovative products. Our partnership relies on access to extensive research and development resources. In pursuit of our long-term corporate strategy, we are initiating a new project with the Łukasiewicz Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics and the Warsaw University of Technology. The project, whose total budget is approximately PLN 30 million, will develop photonic integrated circuits for everyday applications. This opens a new chapter in our co-operation. I am certain that our continued partnership will be most successful in creating an innovative environment for the Polish photonic industry,” said Adam Piotrowski, CEO of Vigo System S.A.
