Members of the House of Lords European Union Committee are engaged in meetings with committees of the Portuguese Assembly of the People in Lisbon, and the German Bundesrat (Federal Council) in Berlin.
The aim of these meetings is to give parliamentarians on both sides of the Brexit negotiations an opportunity to engage in dialogue on issues of mutual interest and concern, including the rights of UK and EU nationals resident in each other's countries.
The Chair of the EU Committee, Lord Boswell of Aynho, is in Lisbon in response to an invitation to address the European Affairs Committee of the Assembly of the People.
The Chair of the EU Financial Affairs Sub-Committee, Baroness Falkner of Margravine, and member of the EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee, Lord Jay of Ewelme, are in Berlin to meet the European Affairs Committee of the Bundesrat.
These visits form part of the EU Committee’s ongoing work programme, which has seen the Committee publish 15 Brexit-related report since the June 2016 referendum.
