UK Female Bankers Are The World’s Best For Wind Energy - New Rankings

Date 07/03/2017

A new report released today, ahead of International Women’s Day on the 8th March, highlights the most powerful women in the wind industry for the first time.

The report, Women’s Power List 2017, is published by A Word About Wind, a market intelligence service. It has researched and ranked the 100 most prominent women in the industry from across the globe. The results include 24 women who work forfinancial companies, 13 of whom are working in the UK.

The list demonstrates the important role wind energy now plays as a source of work for international banks and financial companies. Bankers who made the rankings were highlighted for their work on significant renewable energy projects.

To coincide with the report, RenewableUK has launched a new ‘Women into Wind’ initiative to encourage women to get involved in the industry. The campaign includes details on job opportunities, career advice and case studies, including new entries on the Faces of Wind website.

RenewableUK’s Executive Director, Emma Pinchbeck, said:

“The UK has a rich financial tradition and it’s great to see wind energy becoming part of that. Female bankers in some of the world’s most powerful firms are playing a significant role in taking the wind industry forward, and we’re proud that the UK leads the world in this.

It’s an encouraging sign that both sectors are becoming more inclusive, but women are still notably absent from most senior management roles. We need to be promoting the skills and experience to work on renewable projects to women bankers, andto those entering the profession”.

Notes:

RenewableUK is the trade and professional body for the wind, wave and tidal energy industries. Formed in 1978, and with more than 400 corporate members, RenewableUK is the country’s leading renewable energy trade association.
