Environmental markets infrastructure provider TZ1 has been appointed as a global registry for the Malua Wildlife Habitat Conservation Bank.
The Malua Wildlife Habitat Conservation Bank (Malua BioBank), a first-of-its-kind business model for rainforest conservation, was launched today in Malaysia. The Malua Biobank was launched by the Eco Products Fund, LP, a private equity fund jointly managed by New Forests Inc. of Washington, D.C., Equator Environmental, LLC of New York City, and the Government of Sabah.
The Malua BioBank will generate Biodiversity Conservation Certificates, with each Certificate representing 100 square meters of rainforest restoration and protection. The sale of Biodiversity Conservation Certificates will endow a perpetual conservation trust and generate a return on investment.
The TZ1 Registry has been appointed as sole registry provider for the registration and management of these Malua BioBank Biodiversity Conservation Certificates, the first formally appointed biodiversity registry worldwide.
David Brand, Managing Director, New Forests said, “The Malua BioBank was seeking a registry facility which ensures authenticity and robustness in the ownership management of all Biodiversity Conservation Certificates issued for the rehabilitation and protection of the Malua Forest Reserve.
“TZ1 quickly understood our requirement for rigour and certification protection. The TZ1 Registry is a fully functioning credible, secure online registry facility based in true financial markets infrastructure,” said Brand.
Helen Robinson, CEO of TZ1 Registry said, “TZ1 is delighted to be selected to provide a critical function in the emerging biodiversity marketplace. A registry is an essential tool to provide transparency and credibility to this market as it develops."
The TZ1 Biodiversity Registry has listed 1.3 million Biodiversity Conservation Certificates today. These certificates are available for viewing online at: http://www.tz1market.com/biodiversity.php
