Equities
In February the trading volume on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to €57.36 bn, which represents a 13.8% decrease from the previous month. The trading volume for the first two months of the year totalled €123.93 bn
The number of share trades to February was 4.7 million, up 22.6% from the same period in 2007 and down 37.5% from the same period in 2008. The number of trades in February was 2.2 million, down 10.2% from the previous month.
The number of trades on the ETF segment in February was up 70.9% from the same month in 2008.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading in February reached €293.61 bn, up 202% from the same month the previous year. The trading volume posted in the first two months totalled €652.74 bn, up 205% from the same period in 2008.
The number of trades in February was 75,358, up 25.7% from the same period a year earlier. In the first two months of the year the number of trades totalled 154,862, up 15.1% from the same period a year earlier.
New issues in February came in at €40.29 bn, up 34.4% from the same month in 2008. In the first two months of the year the number of issues totalled €80 bn, down 5.5% from the same period in 2008.
The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of February was €836.91 bn, up 8.9% from the same period a year earlier.
Futures and Options
In February trading on MEFF, BME's Derivatives Market, came in at 5.4 million contracts, up 43% from the same a year earlier.
Highlights include Futures on Stocks, with 2.6 million contracts traded, up 139% from the same period a year earlier, and Options on Stocks, with 1.8 million contracts traded, up 48% from a year earlier.
The trading volume on this market for the first two months of the year totalled 13.8 million contracts, up 46% from the same period in 2008. Highlights include Futures on Stocks, up 113% from a year earlier, at 7.6 million contracts, and Options on Stocks, up 80% from a year earlier, at 4.3 million contracts.
Warrants and Certificates
The number of warrants issued in the first two months of the year came in at 1,380.
Trading volumes in February on the warrants and certificates market came in at €152.6 million and the number of trades was 29,657.
The trading volume on this segment to February totalled €325 million, down 48.4% from 2008 and the number of trades was 63,445, down 50% from the same period the previous year.
