TSX Welcomes World's Stock Exchanges To Toronto On Canada Day

Date 29/06/2002

Delegates from 28 of the world's leading stock exchanges are in Toronto July 1-3 for a meeting of the World Federation of Exchanges' Working Committee. A Working Committee is typically held once a year at a member exchange in the Americas, in Asia/Pacific and in the Europe/Africa regions. The Toronto Stock Exchange previously hosted the meeting on April 27, 1988. Next week's session will focus specifically on corporate governance and the role of exchanges and on the internalization of order flow.

"I'd like to welcome my colleagues from around the world to Toronto to celebrate with us over the Canada Day weekend," said Barbara Stymiest, CEO of the TSX Group and a member of the Board of Directors of the Federation. "The TSX is an active participant in these conferences and when our peers gather we get a unique opportunity to compare services and focus on best practices that we may ultimately provide to the participants in our Canadian marketplace."

The World Federation of Exchanges is a global trade association for the exchange industry. The membership is comprised of 56 regulated exchanges from all regions of the world. The Federation is a private international organization comprised of the operators of the world's leading markets, committed to the highest levels of market quality. Providing a forum for communication, analysis and debate among members, its purpose is to facilitate the representation and development of organized and regulated markets, and to meet the evolving needs of their various users.
