Graduates
- There were 3 graduates to the Toronto Stock Exchange in October 2003. The total number of year-to-date graduates has increased to 40. This represents 40.4% of the senior market's new listings this year compared to 21.2% for the same period last year.
- Additionally, 8 TSX Venture companies were acquired/merged with TSX listed companies in 2003.
Year-To-Date Financing
- As of the end of October, there were 1,713 financing deals on TSX Venture that raised a total of $1.57 billion, an increase of 37.1% from the same time last year of $1.15 billion through 1,603 financing deals.
- The average size of the financings increased from $0.72 million to $0.92 million compared to a year ago, an increase of 27.7%.
- The Mining sector led the way in financing, raising a total of $767 million (representing 49% of the total). The Oil & Gas sector followed with $406.2 million (representing 26% of the total). The Technology sector captured 8% of the financing with $120.6 million raised as of the end of October 2003.
- InterOil Corporation, a company that specializes in refining petroleum, completed the largest single year-to-date financing, raising $68.8 million through a private placement in September 2003. Amerigo Resources Ltd., a Mining company, completed the next largest single financing deal, raising $26 million through a private placement in June 2003.
Going Public Activity
- There were 6 new listings in the month of October, bringing the year-to-date total to 56. Year-to-date new listings declined 23.3% compared to the same period last year.
- 34% of the new listings were from the mining sector. The Capital Pool program generated 38% of the new listings and the technology sector accounted for 13% of the new listings.
- The regional breakdown of new listings is as follow: British Columbia (29%), Alberta (27%), Ontario (20%), Quebec (20%), Manitoba (2%) and Foreign (4%).
- As of October 31, 2003, there were 34 Reverse Take Over transactions, 70 Qualifying Transactions and 42 IPOs (including CPCs).
Index
- The S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index closed at 1,565.0 on October 31, 2003. This represented an increase of 45.7% since the beginning of 2003. The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 17.5%, the NASDAQ Composite was up 44.7% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 17.5% since the beginning of January 2003.
