Graduates
- There were 7 graduates to the Toronto Stock Exchange in July 2003. The total number of year-to-date graduates has increased to 29. This represents 45.3% of the senior market's new listings this year compared to 16.1% for the same period last year.
- Additionally, 5 TSX Venture companies were acquired/merged with TSX listed companies in 2003.
- As of July 30, there were 1,143 financing deals on the TSX venture market that raised a total of $961.8 million, an increase of 8.6% from the same time last year of $885.2 million through 1,188 financing deals.
- The average size of the financings increased from $0.75 million to $0.84 million compared to a year ago, an increase of 12%.
- The Mining sector led the way in financing, raising a total of $424.7 million (representing 44% of the total). The Oil & Gas sector followed with $269.9 million (representing 28% of the total). The Technology sector captured 10% of the financing with $97.2 million raised as of the end of July 2003.
- High Point Resources Inc., an Oil & Gas company, completed the largest financing deal in July, raising $23 million through a private placement. Amerigo Resources Ltd., a Mining company, completed the largest single year-to-date financing, raising $26 million through a private placement in June 2003.
- There were 6 new listings in the month of July, bringing the year-to-date total to 37. Year-to-date new listings declined 36% compared to the same period last year.
- 38% of the new listings were from the mining sector. The Capital Pool program generated 38% of the new listings and the technology sector accounted for 14% of the new listings.
- The regional breakdown of new listings is as follow: British Columbia (27%), Alberta (19%), Ontario (27%), Quebec (22%), Manitoba (3%) and Foreign (3%).
- As of July 31, 2003, there were 23 Reverse Take Over transactions, 55 Qualifying Transactions and 27 IPOs (including CPCs).
- The S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index closed at 1,214.35 on July 31, 2003. This represented an increase of 13.1% since the beginning of 2003. The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 9.7%, the NASDAQ Composite was up 29.9% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 10.7% since the beginning of January 2003.
- The market capitalization for TSX Venture Exchange equities was $12.44 billion as of July 31, 2003 - an increase of 4.9% from June 2003 and an increase of 16% from the same period last year.
