TSX Venture Exchange Summary For November 2003

The following is a brief overview of statistic highlights from the TSX Venture Exchange for November 2003.

Graduates

  • There were 4 graduates to the Toronto Stock Exchange in November 2003. The total number of year-to-date graduates has increased to 44. This represents 38.9% of the senior market's new listings this year compared to 22.9% for the same period last year.

  • Additionally, 10 TSX Venture companies were acquired/merged with TSX listed companies in 2003.

Year-To-Date Financing

  • As of the end of November, there were 1,939 financing deals on TSX Venture that raised a total of $1.89 billion, an increase of 44.8% from the same time last year of $1.3 billion through 1,723 financing deals.

  • The average size of the financings increased from $0.75 million to $0.97 million compared to a year ago, an increase of 29.3%.

  • The Mining sector led the way in financing, raising a total of $921.9 million (representing 49% of the total). The Oil & Gas sector followed with $463.8 million (representing 25% of the total). The Technology sector captured 8% of the financing with $151 million raised as of the end of November 2003.

  • InterOil Corporation, a company that specializes in refining petroleum, completed the largest single year-to-date financing, raising $68.8 million through a private placement in September 2003. Amerigo Resources Ltd., a Mining company, completed the next largest single financing deal, raising $26 million through a private placement in June 2003.

Going Public Activity

  • There were 10 new listings in the month of November, bringing the year-to-date total to 66. Year-to-date new listings declined 14.3% compared to the same period last year.

  • 36% of the new listings were from the mining sector. The Capital Pool program generated 39% of the new listings and the technology sector accounted for 9% of the new listings.

  • The regional breakdown of new listings is as follow: British Columbia (33%), Alberta (24%), Ontario (18%), Quebec (20%), Manitoba (2%) and Foreign (3%).

  • As of November 28, 2003, there were 38 Reverse Take Over transactions, 80 Qualifying Transactions and 50 IPOs (including CPCs).

Index

  • The S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index closed at 1,690.45 on November 28, 2003. This represented an increase of 57.4% since the beginning of 2003. The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 18.8%, the NASDAQ Composite was up 46.8% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 17.3% since the beginning of January 2003.

Market Capitalization

  • The market capitalization for TSX Venture Exchange equities was $19.67 billion as of November 28, 2003 - an increase of 13.2% from October 2003 and an increase of 98.3% from the same period last year.
