Graduates
- There were 2 graduates to the Toronto Stock Exchange in April 2003. The total number of YTD graduates has increased to 17. This represents 51.5% of the senior market's new listings this year compared to 24.0% for the same period last year.
Financing
- As of April 30, there were 701 financing deals on the TSX venture market that raised a total of $547.6 million, an increase of 40.2% from the same time last year of $390.2 million through 718 financing deals.
- The average size of the financings increased from $0.54 million to $0.78 million compared to a year ago, an increase of 44.4%.
- The Mining sector led the way in financing, raising a total of $261.5 million (representing 48% of the total). The Oil & Gas sector followed with $149.4 million financing (representing 27% of the total). The Technology sector captured 12% of the financing market with $64 million raised as of the end of April 2003.
- Points International Ltd., a technology company, completed the largest financing deal in the month of April, raising $15.1 million through a private placement. Another technology company, Shellcase Ltd., completed the largest single year-to-date financing, raising USD $13.2 million in February (approximately CDN $20.0 million) through a private placement.
New Listings
- There were 2 new listings in the month of April. Year-to-date new listings declined 57.1% compared to the same period last year.
- The Capital Pool program generated 47% of the new listings. 40% of the new listings were from the mining sector.
- The regional breakdown of new listings is as follow: British Columbia (20%), Alberta (13%), Ontario (33%) and Quebec (33%).
Index
- The S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index closed at 1,044.24 on April 30, 2003. This represented a decrease of 2.8% since the beginning of 2003. The S&P/TSX Composite Index was down 0.4%, the NASDAQ Composite was up 9.6% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 1.7% since the beginning of January 2003.
Market Capitalization
- The market capitalization for TSX Venture Exchange equities was $11.38 billion as of April 30, 2003 - a drop of 1.6% from March 2003.
