TSX Venture Exchange President Highlights Alberta Accomplishments - Alberta Leads New Listings To The TSX Venture Exchange In 2002

Date 20/09/2002

"Alberta has been the most dynamic part of our market in recent years," TSX Venture Exchange President told an audience at a breakfast meeting of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. "Alberta doesn't have the largest number of listings on the TSX Venture Exchange but we are seeing a measure of success in this province."

Up until the end of August, Alberta has provided a larger number of new TSX Venture listings this year than any other part of the country. The 22 new listings of Alberta-based companies represent 35 percent of the TSX Venture's new listings this year. Also, Alberta is seeing a robust increase in venture capital. There has been $278.5 million in new financings or 28 percent of new public venture financing in the country.

Ms. Hohol also touched on the subject of corporate governance saying this week she wrote the Chairs of both the Alberta and B.C. Securities Commissions on this very subject. "My purpose for writing was to deal with the implications for TSX Venture companies of new U.S. laws dealing with corporate governance."

A copy of her letter and a copy of today's speech are available on TSX.ca.
