TSX Markets To Launch Market On Close Facility - Market On Close Has Been Developed To Provide A Fair, Fast And Liquid Benchmark For Closing-Price Trades On Toronto Stock Exchange.

Date 01/03/2004

TSX Markets today announced that beginning on March 22, it will begin phasing in a new trading feature, Market on Close (MOC). MOC allows Participating Organizations to execute Market on Close orders on Toronto Stock Exchange at the end of the regular trading session for issues in the S&P TSX 60. The MOC feature is expected to be phased into the entire S&P/TSX 60 stock list in the month following the launch. Phase one will see symbols A-B of the S&P/ TSX 60 Index made MOC-eligible on March 29th, 2004. These symbols are:

A - Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.
ABX - Barrick Gold Corporation
AGU - Agrium Inc.
AL - Alcan Inc.
ATY - ATI Technologies Inc.
BBD.B - Bombardier Inc.
BCB - Cott Corporation
BCE - BCE Inc.
BMO - Bank of Montreal
BNN.A - Brascan Corporation
BNS - Bank of Nova Scotia (The)
BVF - Biovail Corporation

"Market on Close will provide our marketplace with a number of key elements," said Richard Nesbitt, President of TSX Markets. "Key here is that all market participants will have access to a closing trading price that will be based on a pooling of orders and taking into consideration the liquidity in the market. We believe this is a fair way to base the closing price for the stock list."

Market on Close will operate in a manner similar to how the current marketplace opens for trading. The final price will be calculated by combining the orders in the MOC and continuous market books to determine the closing market price of a security.
