TSX Group Celebrates "TSX Mining Week" As PDAC Conference Comes To Town

Date 27/02/2008

With many of the world’s leading mining experts in Toronto for the annual Prospector’s & Developers Association of Canada Conference (PDAC), TSX Group will celebrate “TSX Mining Week” with a series of market openings devoted specifically to mining issuers.

On Monday, March 3 officials from Jinshan Gold Mines Inc., a TSX Venture Exchange graduate, open the market. That’s followed Tuesday by officials from PDAC. On Wednesday, Quest Uranium opens the market. Thursday its First Majestic Silver and on Friday, Rockwell Diamonds completes the group of mining issuers opening the markets at the TSX Broadcast Centre.

"Our exchanges are world leaders for raising equity capital for mining and as a result we attract numerous international mining participants," said Rik Parkhill, Interim Co-CEO of TSX Group. "There is great value for mining issuers in a TSX listing. Mining issuers that list here tap into deep capital pools and extensive mining expertise from analysts, professional advisors like lawyers and engineers, investment bankers, to investors. We are the world’s mining exchange."

Mr. Parkhill will be a keynote speaker at the PDAC Conference. His speech will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 3 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. (Level 700, South Building.)

TSX Group’s exchanges are home to approximately 60% of the world's public mining companies. As the world's pre-eminent mining exchange group, TSX Group offers mining companies access to capital and trading at all stages of their growth, from the earliest stage exploration companies to senior producers. Canada has the world's largest mining analyst community that covers issuers on both Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange.

Mining companies from around the globe continue to come to TSX Group exchanges. In 2007, a record total of 186 new mining companies listed on the exchanges – more than any other exchange group in the world. It was also a record year for graduations from TSX Venture Exchange to Toronto Stock Exchange -- 44 mining companies graduated in 2007.

Other new records included the number of international mining listings – 27 new international listings in 2007 – from Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Papua New Guinea, UK, and USA.

For equity financings: Record year for equity capital raised by TSX and TSXV mining companies and a record year for number of equity financings. And finally for trading: It was a record year for mining shares volume and value traded and a record year for number of trades.

For Market Openings: Media may pick up a feed from the TOC (television operations centre) for all market open ceremonies. The feed is named TSX Transmit 2 and is produced at the TSX and sent live to the TOC. Those featured in the market opening move into position for the market open ceremony at approximately 9:27 a.m. and the markets will open with the sound of a SIREN (the traditional market open on Toronto Stock Exchange) at 9:30 a.m.
