Trading Volumes Up In Several Categories At NYBOT- Cocoa Options Trading Sets Record

The New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) announced today overall increases in futures and options trading for 2003 including one monthly record. Total futures and options volume for the first five months of the year has increased 18% over the same period in 2002. Options trading leads the way with a 50% increase in volume for the year-to-date.

The volume figures through the end of May 2003 include:

Yearly

  • Total Futures and Options contracts traded are up 18% for the year (9,682,213 in 2003 vs. 8,180,465 in 2002)
  • Options are up 50% for the year (2,078,382 in 2003 vs. 1,382,056 in 2002)
Monthly
  • Total futures and options contracts traded are up 22% for the month (1,858,495 in May '03 vs. 1,521,797 in May '02)
  • Total futures are up 22% (1,388,587 contracts in May '03 vs. 1,139,620 contracts in May '02)
  • Total options are up 23% (469,908 in May '03 vs. 382,177 in May '02)
Records
  • Cocoa Options set a new trading record of 147,413 in May 2003, replacing the previous record of 124,883 from October 2002.
