Trading volumes rise in November
Equity trading through Euronext NV orderbooks totalled €141.31 billion in November, up 2.5% from October. Average daily trading volume was up 7.4%.
The total number of trades processed through Euronext's electronic systems was up 9% from October 2001. The average daily number of transactions on the Cash Market rose 8.4% from November 2000.
In the first eleven months, daily trading on Euronext eased 0.5% to average €6.66 billion, compared with €6.69 billion in the same period of 2000.
The total number of trades in equity products came to 108,234,339 over the first eleven months, compared with 119,327,170 over the same period of 2000.
On NextTrack, the compartment dedicated to exchange-traded funds (ETF), trading eased from a daily average of €91.5 million in October to €75.7 million in November. NextTrack was launched on 9 January 2001 and now counts 47 tracker funds.
The Euronext 100 index gained 4% in November and the Next 150 8.5%. Since the beginning of the year, the Euronext 100 has fallen 22.5%, as has the Next 150.
Over the eleven-month period, Euronext's regulated markets welcomed 38 new listings. On November 30, capitalization of the 1,559 companies listed with Euronext N.V. totalled €1,946 billion.
Since 29 October 2001, Euronext equity markets have used a single trading platform, creating the first pan-European electronic market.
Derivatives
Trading up 60.8% on November 2000
On Euronext derivatives markets, trading rose 60.8% from November 2000, with 42.49 million contracts changing hands. Trading volumes in number of contracts in index options were up by a healthy 57.3% over the same period, while transactions in number of contracts in equity options rose 102.6%.
In the first eleven months of the year, 372.20 million futures and option contracts were traded, or 22.1% more than the 304.85 million traded in the same period of 2000.
Euronext N.V., the first pan-European stock exchange, was created in September 2000 by the merger of the Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris stock exchanges. Euronext N.V. has itself been listed on Euronext since July 6, 2001.
