Equities
In July the trading volume on the Spanish market amounted to €95.47 bn, which represents a 10.8% increase from the previous month and is the highest monthly trading volume since October 2008. The trading volume to the end of July totalled €516.80 bn, down 37% from the same period a year earlier.
The number of shares traded in July, at 11.70 billion shares, increased by 12.4% from the previous month and by 10% from July 2008 and is the highest monthly figure in 2009. The number of shares traded to the end of July totalled 67.62 billion, up 1.1% from the same period a year earlier.
In July the number of trades came in at 2.76 million, up 5.8% from the previous month.The number of trades to the end of July totalled 17.9 million, down 17.7% from the same period a year earlier.
The number of trades on the ETF segment in July was up 195% from the same month a year earlier. In the first seven months of the year the number of trades was up 99.7% from the same period in 2008. The trading volume on this segment in July came in at €372.2million and in the first seven months of the year it totalled €1.89 billion.
Futures and Options
In July trading on MEFF, BME’s Derivatives Market, came in at 10.4 million contracts, up 28% from the same month a year earlier.
Highlights include Options on Stocks, with 2.1 million contracts traded, up 65% from the same period a year earlier and Stock Futures, at 7.1 million contracts, up 36% from July 2008.
The trading volume on this market to the end of July totalled 60.5 million contracts, up 24% from the same period in 2008. Highlights include Options on Stocks, at 18.1 million contracts, up 92% from a year earlier, and Stock Futures, at 34.5 million contracts, up 21% from the same period a year earlier.
Warrants and Certificates
The number of warrants issued to the end of July totalled 4,274.
Trading volume in July on the warrants and certificates market came in at €166.8 million, up 4.1% from the previous month. The number of trades was 30,261, up 2.8% from the previous month.
The trading volume to the end of July totalled €1.16 billion, down 37.5% from the same period in 2008. The number of trades was down 35.6% from the same period a year earlier, at 225,372.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading on the Debt Market to the end of July exceeded the figure for the entire year 2008, at €2.4 trillion, up 109.5% from the same period a year earlier. In July the trading volume was €289.24 bn, up 21.5% from the same month a year earlier.
New issues in July came in at €45.32 bn, down 18.6% from the same period in 2008. New issues to the end of July totalled €284.47 bn, down 7.9% from July 2008.
The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of July was €890.95 bn, up 7.8% from the same period a year earlier.
