Trading Volumes On The Spanish Exchange Reached €86.90 Bn In January, Up 30.5% From The Same Month In 2009

Equities

In January the trading volume on the Spanish market amounted to €86.90 bn, which represents a 30.5% increase from the same month a year ago and a 4.9% rise from December 2009.

During this month the number of trades came in at 2.98 million, up 21.2% from January 2009 and up 28.3% from the previous month.

In January the number of shares traded was 8.19 bn, down 3.95% from the same month a year earlier.

The number of trades on the ETF segment in January came in at 5,771, up 76.5% from January 2009 and a monthly record high for this segment. The value of trading on the ETF segment in January was €363.5 million, up 35.1% from the same month a year earlier

Futures and Options

BME’s Derivatives Market traded 5.4 million Futures and Options contracts in January. Highlights include Equity Options, at 3.4 million contracts and a 36.6% rise from the same month a year earlier.

The trading volume in IBEX 35 Futures came in at 458,252 contracts, up 10.7% from January 2009.

Warrants and Certificates

The number of warrants issued in January 2010 came in at 611.

Trading volumes in January on the warrants and certificates market came in at €99.4 million, down 42% from January 2009.

The number of trades was 24,245, down 28.2% with respect to the same period a year ago.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on BME’s Debt Market in January reached €240.09 bn, down 33.1% from the same period a year earlier, when it reached a record high and tripled the amount recorded in the same month of 2008.

New issues in January came in at €24.50 bn, down 38.3% from the same month in 2009.

The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of January was €873.44 bn, up 6.2% from the same period a year earlier.
