Equities
In February the Equity trading volume on the Spanish stock exchange amounted to €76.74 bn, which represents a 34% increase from the same month in 2009. The trading volume for the first two months of the year totalled €163.66 bn, up 32% from the same period a year earlier.
The number of share trades in February was 3.3 million, up 51.5% from the same month in 2009 and up 12.1% from January 2010. The number of trades in the first two months totalled 6.35 million, up 35.6% from the same period in 2009.
The number of trades on the ETF segment in February was up 122% from the same month in 2009, at 6,983, which represents a monthly record high. The trading volume in February was €926 million, up 465% from the same month in 2009.The number of trades in the first two months totalled 12,754, which is double the figure for the same period in 2009. As for the trading volume for the first two months, the ETF segment recorded a figure of €1.28 bn, up 198% from the same period in 2009.
Futures and Options
In February trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 4.9 million contracts, down 8% from the same period a year earlier. Of these, 3.1 million contracts were traded in Options on Stocks, up 75.8% from February 2009. The trading volume in the first two months totalled 10.3 million contracts.
Trading in IBEX 35 Futures in February came in at 511,715 contracts, up 21% from the same month in 2009, in this way maintaining this years’ upward trend.
Warrants and Certificates
The number of warrants issued in the first two months of the year came in at 1,402, up 30% from the same period a year earlier.
Trading volumes in February on the warrants and certificates market came in at €124 million, down 18.5% from February 2009 but up 25% from January. The number of trades in February was 31,254, up 5.4% from the same month a year earlier and up 28% from January.
The trading volume on this segment to February totalled €224 million, down 31% from 2009 and the number of trades was 55,508, down 12.5% from the same period the previous year.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading in February reached €121.24 bn and the figure for the first two months of the year totalled €361.34 bn, down 44.6% from the same period in 2009.
New issues in February came in at €13.44 bn while in the first two months of the year the number of issues totalled €37.94 bn, down 52.6% from the same period in 2009.
The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of February was €870.86 bn, up 4.8% from the same period a year earlier.
The trading volume on BME’s Public Debt market in February came in at €19.67bn. In the first two months of the year the trading volume totalled €32.75, up 50.2% from the same period a year earlier.
