Equities
In January the trading volume on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to €66.56 bn, which represents a 9% increase from the previous month and a 63.5% decrease compared to the monthly record high recorded in January 2008. During this month the number of transactions came in at 2.5 million, up 16% from December 2008.
The number of shares traded in January was 8.53 bn, up 17.9% from December 2008 and down 36.6% from the monthly record high reached in January 2008.
The value of trading on the ETF segment in January was €269 million, up 14.7% from December 2008. The number of trades, 3,300, increased by 5.7% from January 2008 and rose by 18.2% in comparison to December 2008.
Futures and Options
BME's Derivatives Market traded 8.4 million contracts in January, up 48% from the same period a year earlier.
It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Options on Stocks in January, at 2.5 million contracts, up 112% from a year earlier and Futures on Stocks, at 4.9 million contracts, up 111% from the same month in 2008
Warrants and Certificates
The number of warrants issued in January 2009 came in at 1,078, up 116% from the same month in 2008.
Trading volumes in January on the warrants and certificates market came in at €173.4 million, up 9.2% from December 2008. The number of trades was 33,788, up 7.8% with respect to the same period.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading on the Debt Market in January reached a record high of €359.13 bn, triple that recorded in the same month of 2008.
New issues in January came in at a record €39.71 bn, down 27.3% from the same month in 2008.
The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of January was €828.70 bn, up 7.8% from the same period a year earlier.
